Flanders Architectural Review N° 13 - Grand Format

Good architecture expresses the ambitions and challenges of a society. It does more than give shape to a programme : good architecture provides unexpected answers, raises provocative questions, and lays the foundation for a flourishing architectural culture by exploring the boundaries of the discipline. In this way, while a mustard factory fulfils its purpose as a mustard factory, as a formal statement it also creates a place of significance in a landscape that balances between industrial zone and natural land.
The Flanders Architectural Review No.13 presents the high-profile architecture produced in Flanders and Brussels. It shows a rich selection of recently completed projects and offers eleven essays that deal with such topics as the poetry of utility buildings, the responsibility that architecture bears for the landscape, the exploration of a new scale and collectivity in urban renewal, and the individual character of Flemish architecture abroad.
